Did the new Call of Duty and Halo games just get outed on the same day by the same website?
UK retailer Tesco has allegedly spilled the beans on two major upcoming video game titles.
The website has since taken down the items. Call of Duty: Ghosts was listed under Xbox 360 and PS3 while the Halo title was just under Xbox 360.
The interesting thing about the Call of Duty reveal, though, is that the box art was also leaked and it features the Infinity Ward logo on the bottom.
The game developer is known for making the three Modern Warfare entries in the Call of Duty franchise, all of which received much critical acclaim.
The cover art also shows a soldier putting on the mask that the character Ghost wore in Modern Warfare 2.
It has been previously rumored that Ghosts would be the subtitle to the newest Call of Duty game. It is also rumored that it will follow the footsteps of last year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and take place in the future.
Videogamer.com tried to get information out of Activision after the leak. All a representative said was “no comment.”
The mystery Halo title is a different story.
"This listing is not indicative of a Halo product launch. We have no news to share of future Halo titles,” Microsoft said in a statement.
After the release of the very successful Halo 4 last November, the developers have made no announcement of any future titles, even though the fans know they are coming.
The title was listed as Upcoming Halo on Tesco’s website, with no box art aside from the generic, blank Xbox 360 outline.
However, it was listed as being available Dec. 31, 2013, a date that would likely change if it is in fact true that a new Halo is coming out a year after Halo 4.
There were three years separating each title of the original trilogy, then two years between Halo 3 and Halo: ODST, then a year later came Bungie’s last Halo game Halo: Reach. Two years later came the first title developed by 343 industries, Halo 4. So it seems unlikely that the title, if true at all, is Halo 5.
But the different responses from Activision to Microsoft show that Call of Duty: Ghosts could actually be confirmed and announced soon: Perhaps at E3 in June.
