It was found that the FDA has granted the approval for this new indication in December, after reviewing a study of 7,000 patients diagnosed of having both medical conditions. Furthermore, the Therapeutic Goods Administration has currently listed Jardiance for use to reduce cardiovascular deaths in diabetics which has also been noted to be the first drug to ever offer that benefit. Sydney cardiologist Professor Andrew Sindone said that a third of his patients have diabetes, thus, the approval of Jardiance would make it as a huge advancement. Additionally, Prof Sindone has claimed that diabetes is a big epidemic and the advent of Jardiance is also seen to have a big impact on those people's health.
The Good News On Jardiance
In one of her statements reported by Endocrine Web, a professor of medicine and pediatrics at Boston University School of Medicine and director, Nutrition and Weight Management Center at Boston Medical Center, Caroline Apovian, MD, FACP, FACN, said that having a drug intended for diabetes that has been shown to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death in those with type 2 diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular disease. Ultimately, Jardiance has been regarded as a type of drug known as a sodium glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitor (SGLT). It is said that the drug works by blocking the reabsorption of excess glucose in the kidney, which leads to more glucose that is then believed to be excreted in the urine.
