The next gaming console from Sony, the PS4, has been exciting gamers for some time now who are eagerly anticipating the imminent release (or any information they can get their hands/eyes on) of what we all believe will be something rather special. This is especially true considering the Xbox 720 is on its way from Microsoft soon, as well, and thus Sony will need to do whatever it can to make sure its gaming console can compete.
This is why we're delighted to see that Sony has released a video detailing what its own developers think about the new PS4 controller with DualShock 4 design.
"The DualShock design has remained fairly consistent since its introduction in 1997," WebProNews says in a report on the PS4 controller video that was published on Thursday, April 25.
Although WebProNews adds rather backhandedly that we've all been a bit disappointed in Sony's choice to keep the subsequent DualShock incarnations basically the same, we can get some excitement out of the PS4, which will have a controller that will rock a fuller redesign.
"[Sony's] developers couldn't be happier," WebProNews says.
As the site does remind us, because the developers checking out the new controller for the PS4 are "internal Sony developers," it's important to remember some bias will be in play here, or as WebProNews puts it, "they [the developers] are somewhat obligated to love the new controller."
"That being said, there does seem to be a lot of love that went into the controller, and Sony says that it was designed with input from studios around the world," WebProNews adds.
Producer Nicolas Doucet, in the video, says he loves the new PS4 controller because it "has a lot of simple inputs but when we combine them together, it becomes really, really rich."
Toshimasa Aoki, who is with Sony's Product Planning department, says in the video that the company met with a lot of developers about their wants and needs for the PS4 DualShock 4 that was lacking in the DualShock 3.
Worldwide Studios SVP of Product Development Scott Rohde agrees with Aoki, saying that all of the various facets of Sony came together in order to get as much different kinds of input from developers as possible to decide "what this controller should be ... in order to make something that's truly evolutionary."
Rodhe goes on to detail the various features of the PS4 controller that have been tuned-up, along with other features that have been added "without compromising the basic feel of the DualShock."
The new "big feature" that Doucet touts in the video is the addition of the "Share" button on the PS4 controller that will allow users to record gameplay and share it instantly. You can do this via video or image still.
"When you combine all of these features together," Doucet concludes at the end of the video," the controller really comes to life."
The PS4 will likely be unveiled in June at E3.
