Apple CarPlay has rapidly become one of the most sought after infotainment feature in modern vehicles but it has a drawback of sometimes requiring drivers to take extra time to look at the screen. Apple's solution is to add a few more buttons to prevent this and considering the dangers of drivers taking their eyes away from the road for too long, this change in the Apple CarPlay is most certainly a welcome one.
What Is Apple CarPlay?
For those that still drive old school cars, Apple CarPlay is a feature that is not very familiar. Apple's CarPlay is basically a means of connecting the operating system of an iPhone to the car. The Apple CarPlay is among those that can be commonly found in modern cars as standard features.
The Long-Time Problem
According to report, CarPlay was originally designed to be kept simple in order to allow drivers to still be able to concentrate on driving. However, many people have been irked by the fact that users have to tap on the screen twice to switch between music controls and map, which basically requires the driver to look away from the road for a longer period of time to operate the system. Some people do not find this to be a problem but most see it as a hassle and can potentially be dangerous.
Apple's Solution
According to report, Apple is finally solving this CarPlay problem in the iOS 10.3 beta. It was mentioned that there is no longer just a single icon situated in the upper left-hand corner of the infotainment screen as there are now three of them. The added icons basically serve as a quick-press buttons to make the switch easier. Reports state that this software version is expected to be released in the following weeks.
The change is not exactly a big one, in fact, the change is very simple but it is undeniably effective. Drivers want something to keep things simple in order for them to be able to keep their eyes on the road and concentrate on driving. Therefore, Apple's move to simplify the CarPlay further is a smart one in this regard.
