It's hard keeping up with the news. Even if we limit ourselves to the technology and science worlds there are so many reports within a single day that even the most dedicated reader is bound to miss numerous important, interesting, or just plain weird revelations.
The situation isn't any different here at iTech Post, where so many stories are published even our staff can have difficulty keeping up with reading them all. That said, we've decided to do you, our reader, a favor and compile some of the most talked-about and interesting stories right here.
At the end of each week, our Hits & Misses column brings you two lists of articles that are worthy of your attention. "Hits" is pretty self-explanatory, as it includes five of our most popular pieces from the last week. "Misses," meanwhile, will contain noteworthy articles that weren't quite as popular, but are worthy of your attention anyway.
Hits
1. Remember Prometheus? No? Well, don't tell some of our staff writers that. Ridley Scott's Alien sort-of prequel has a sequel in the works, and here are three things we want to see in it.
2. Now that we know the Xbox 720 will be revealed on May 21, it seems like rumors have gone into overdrive. One that got a lot of attention last week concerned Xbox Live, and the possibility that Microsoft would offer its services for free like Sony does with PSN. Fat chance? Probably.
3. The online hacking group Anonymous is establishing its own news web site. The group has already raised $50,000 for the operation, so expect to hear more about this in the near future.
4. It used to take three or four years to diagnose Autism in children, but new research shows that risk for the disease can actually be detected at birth and through the placenta. This raises hopes that early intervention can lead to better life quality.
5. We pit the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 against the iPad mini this week and asked, "Who's got the specs?" Well, they both do. But which one's better? Click here and find out.
Misses
1. In 2018, NASA plans to launch its Hubble successor, the James Webb Space Telescope, into space, and it could potentially let us know what planets are habitable within a few hours. Does that means we can find alien life within a decade? Let's just hope they're cooler than Mork from Ork.
2. Who said fairies aren't real? Scientists have discovered a brand new insect called "Tinkerbell nana," after the famous winged character from Peter Pan. It's safe to say the insect isn't as cute, but its wings make it seem just as weird.
3. Rosie the robot from The Jetsons, Furby, Tamagotchi... humans love robots, and not just figuratively. A new study has found that the kinds of emotions we attach to robots are the same kind we feel for other humans.
4. NASA drew a penis on Mars. Can't say we're surprised.
5. Playing the stock market is risky; that's half the fun of it, right? Well, Google is here to rip the joy out of everything apparently. A new study shows that the search giant can actually predict whether or not stocks will be going up or down.
