‘Fresh Off The Boat' Constance Wu Lands Lead Role In 'Crazy Rich Asians' Movie

The comedy bestseller, “Crazy Rich Asians” is getting a film adaptation. And the good news does not end there. It has just been announced that everyone’s favorite Asian celebrity from “Fresh Off The Boat”, Constance Wu has landed the lead role in the said movie.

Constance Wu stars in the comedy television series, “Fresh Off The Boat”, which is about a Taiwanese family and their life living as American citizens in Orlando. Wu plays the role of the frugal, witty, and decisive mother of the Huangs. She stars in the series, which is actually currently on its third season, alongside Randall Park and Hudson Yang.

Fans have breathed a sigh of relief when it was announced that Wu was given the main role as Rachel Chu in the film adaptation of “Crazy Rich Asians”. Nobody could have fit the role any better. Her character, Rachel is an American born Chinese who graduated in Stanford and she has no idea that her boyfriend is filthy rich. Unprepared of her boyfriend’s family and immense wealth, she goes on a struggling yet funny adventure of having to deal with a culture she thought was of her own.

Hollywood needs an upgrade in diversity when it comes to making movies and with the movie being an all-Asian cast, things are already looking good. Though it has been reported that the movie adaptation of “Crazy Rich Asians” has yet to be approved so that it can move into production, the development is actually quicker than predicted and fans may see it being greenlighted sooner or later. In 2015, it was announced that the producers behind “The Hunger Games” film series, Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson, will be working on the movie then by October 2016, Warner Bros. has acquired the rights to the film and the development has then paced up.
