With a good chunk of the PlayStation 4 unveiling over with, outside of the console's price much of the attention has turned to the games. What kind of support will the PS4 get from developers, and what kind of launch line-up can we expect? Although Goichi Suda is hard at work on Killer is Dead for current-gen systems, his excitement for Sony's next system suggests his games will be on it soon enough.
Speaking to GamesIndustry International, Suda spoke a little about the game coming after Killer Is Dead. Although the same artist from No More Heroes will be working on the title, it's a brand new project with no relation. And it might very well end up on the PS4 when it launches next year.
He wouldn't come right out and say it, but considering the PS4 will launch later this year and his new game comes out in 2014, it's likely that the title will be geared towards next-gen systems (possibly also the Xbox 720).
"It's definitely not planned, but it's part of our internal discussion, releasing it on the PS4," he said.
Adding more fuel to the PS4 fire is the enthusiasm Suda has already shown for the system. Writing in the Japanese magazine Famitsu (translated by Edge) in March, he claimed Sony's PS4 makes him "horny" about the future of video games.
"Thinking about the future of this stuff and then constructing and outputting something appealing is our job as game designers, and from that challenge we can take new strength. And that makes me horny."
Additionally, Suda had some interesting comments about violence in video games. Killer Is Dead, much like many of his past efforts, contains a lot of bloodshed. With more people in the industry, in addition to fans, questioning the use of gratuitous violence, Suda was asked if he was worried.
"When I create games, in terms of violence, I'm not really going for a realistic violence," he said. "I'm definitely trying to go with the hyper-reality where it's so far fetched that it comes to a point where it's kind of funny. That's sort of my creative mindset about violence."
"I don't really believe that playing violent games transitions into people becoming violent. Culturally, for example, in the US, zombie movies are very violent but a lot of people laugh. I love that ironic idea - the idea of actually being able to laugh about violence is something that I enjoy and really think is funny as well. That's what I try to put into my games."
Killer Is Dead will be available on PS3 and Xbox 360 this August. We'll keep an eye out for any PS4 or Xbox 720 details, too.
