Horizon: Zero Dawn is scheduled to be released in just a couple of days and hype is building up more than ever. The game is touted as the most stunning game to be released for PlayStation 4 and is one of the most highly anticipated games for 2017. The game is predicted to be a massive sales success as there are countless of fans that are waiting for the game’s release.
SuperData, a research firm, claims that Horizon: Zero Dawn will reach total sales of up to 8 million copies. SuperData predicts that Horizon: Zero Dawn will move 6 million copies by the end of 2017. The firm also stated that the total sales for the entire lifespan of the action RPG will top out at 8 million copies sold. If this were to occur, Guerrilla Games’ new game will be on par with other blockbusters such as Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End by Naughty Dog and Metal Gear Solid 5: Phantom Pain by Konami.
Joost Van Dreunen, CEO of SuperData, said that Horizon: Zero Dawn has exceedingly positive reviews from critics. This is an element that could significantly help increase sales for the PlayStation 4 exclusive. Van Dreunen further said that the new title’s launch comes at a key moment for Sony as the company has seen a slowing down in purchase of their flagship console, making software sales all the more important for the company from a business perspective.
Aside from the positive news for Guerrilla Games, the most interesting news according to Joost Van Dreunen is that Horizon: Zero Dawn has the potential to draw in newcomers and encourage them to purchase PlayStation 4 consoles thus benefitting Sony both in hardware sales and software sales. The new title has the potential to push Sony even further ahead from its competitor Microsoft, as reported by GameRant.
To date Sony has sold a total of 54 million units of PS4s while Microsoft has sold 26 million units. The release of the new PS4 exclusive will widen the gap between Sony and Microsoft as players will flock to PS4 to play Horizon: Zero Dawn. The title is set to be launched on Feb. 28 in North America and March 1 in Europe, as reported by GameSpot.
