The latest chapter of “Haikyuu!!” has finally put an end to one of the heart racing matches that Karasuno High has ever experienced. Their most recent match is against Tsubakihara Academy at the Spring High National Tournament. Though the match only lasted for two sets, it was still a long match that went on for countless chapters.
“Haikyuu!!” Chapter 242 continues the last parts of the match against Tsubakihara, with Koshi Sugawara serving the ball for Karasuno. They are at the match point of the second set at 24-23, with Karasuno leading and any mistake could turn the tide. Observant Sugawara calculated everything and gave the first service, which went a little off because he was a bit nervous.
Despite the burden riding on his shoulders, Sugawara reflected at this crucial moment. He was glad that he and the other third years, Daichi Sawamura and Asahi Azumane were able to finally reach the Spring High National Tournament. Even if they haven’t won the nationals yet, the three of them already felt that they have made it as high school volleyball players just being given a fighting chance to play.
Just as Tsubakihara’s Marumaya thought he was able to score because of a blocked spike, Sugawara comes in to save the ball, surprising everyone and gives the ball to Tobio Kageyama to prepare for a set. The latter then gives the ball to Asahi for one last hit and then the match was decided. The third years have given their best for this match because they promised their previous captain, back when they were still new to the club, that they will do their best to win Spring High Nationals and restore their team’s former glory.
With Karasuno’s win, they are now set to face another formidable team from another prefecture though it has not been revealed yet which team they will go against. Karasuno draws closer to being the Nationals' champions and they have awed Japan for being a dark horse, emerging as a strong challenger with a team that is composed mostly of freshmen and sophomores. Despite Karasuno’s efforts, there is a huge possibility that they may lose the next round in “Haikyuu!!” Chapter 243 since they barely won against Tsubakihara.
Karasuno may be good but they are still not as good as the teams that have countlessly qualified for the Nationals. They also still have a score to settle with Nekoma High School so there’s a chance that Karasuno still needs to develop especially with the third year players graduating soon. Though Karasuno may lose the next round, they won’t be put down easily and if they continue their winning streak, the story will progress to them having to defend the title with their team's current condition.
