Meitu, the company behind the popular selfie app, has taken the act of taking one's own picture to greater heights by coming up with a smartphone dedicated to taking selfies. The device in question is called the Meitu T8.
Selfie addicts will get a kick out of such a contraption that boasts of a 12-megapixel dual-pixel front-facing camera that has the qualities of a DSLR camera. The selfie shots, as noted by PC Mag, still looks great despite low-light conditions. It also sports a 21-megapixel rear-facing camera.
According to Ken Yeung of Venture Beat, the Meitu T8 is not just about its selfie-centric camera. It also comes with some impressive features including a 5.2-inch AMOLED display with 1920x1080 screen resolution, 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage which will definitely come in handy in storing all those selfies. It runs on MediaTek Hello X MT6797 2.3 GHz processor and is powered by a 3,580mAh battery with fast charging abilities. The T8 will come in a full metallic body and a headphone jack.
The Meitu app has been successful, to say the least. It has been downloaded by more than a billion people. Meitu is not the only company trying to capitalize on the egoistic act which has since been considered a mental condition. Tech giant Apple is rumored to be introducing a 3D front-facing camera on one of its next iPhones which will likely be the iPhone 8. The front camera can take 3D scans of the user's face for facial recognition and 3D selfies. Another interesting capability of the 3D front-facing camera is that it can scan the user's head and superimpose it on that of a character in a mobile game. So aside from having great 3D selfies, the next iPhone can put the owner inside a game. Chinese companies Lenovo and Oppo have also released their own selfie smartphones in 2016.
The ¥3299 ($479) Meitu T8 was initially available only from the company's own website. Starting today, the premiere selfie smartphone can also be ordered from jd.com, suning.som and the Tmall website. The problem is that the Meitu T8 will only be available in China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.
