iPhone 6 Features & Rumors: Touch-Sensitive Home Key, Thinner, Larger Screen & 12 MP Camera (Video)

The iPhone 6 rumor mill continues to churn and this week, it delivered a stunning concept video for an iPhone 6 that incorporates several features that have long been suggested for new iterations of the flagship Apple device. While the video doesn't include any of the more dramatic iPhone 6 rumors, like a transparent handset or curved glass display, it does posit a plausible and elegant iPhone 6.

iPhone 6 Features: New Home Button

This iPhone 6 rumor has been making the rounds since well before the iPhone 6. Ever since the first iPhone redesign, a touch-sensitive home key has been suggested as a likely replacement for the iconic button.

The notion of a dedicated hard key is definitely getting to be somewhat antiquated in 2013, but at the same time, the hard key works, and replacing it with a touch-sensitive version doesn't really add anything except production cost. Apple has never been one to re-invent the wheel, so although the touch-sensitive home key looks neat, it's probably not going to happen.

A caption describing the hypothetical new home button reads: Works like magic. Touch anywhere at the bottom. Boom. You're on the home screen. Just like a Magic Trackpad Works. Like magic.

iPhone 6 Features: Thinner Design, Bigger Display

In the concept by Arthur Reis, the iPhone 6 is posited to be 6.1mm, compared to the iPhone 5 at 7.6 mm. To offset the thinner dimensions, Reis made the screen slightly larger.

While a thinner body is possible and would be more than welcome, it's unlikely that Apple will increase the size of the iPhone in any dimension.

iPhone 6 Features: 12-Megapixel Camera

The trend in smartphones lately seems to be ever-increasing pixel counts for the camera. Apple has always been a trendsetter, not a follower, but there's definitely a case to be made for a stronger imaging sensor than the 8-megapixel one currently in the iPhone 5.

Reis' design suggests a 12-megapixel "iSight Pro" camera on the iPhone 6 with an f/1.8 aperture.
