One of the first Pebble-connected apps comes from RunKeeper, a virtual personal trainer app that's compatible with both iPhone and Android. RunKeeper aims to make the world healthier, merging with hardware and fitness tracking devices.
RunKeeper now lets you control the app directly from your Pebble watch without having to fiddle with your phone. Runkeeper turns your Pebble into a personal trainer, so you can leave your phone in your pocket during workouts. Features that help you keep track of pace, mileage, starting and stopping a workout are accessible on your Pebble.
"People are rightfully excited about wearables because they extend the experience of mobile apps like RunKeeper, so they can be enjoyed without taking your phone out of your pocket," RunKeeper CEO Jason Jacobs said in a statement to iTechPost.
RunKeeper has built-in location technology to help you track your workouts and stay motivated. Since its launch on 2008, Runkeeper has gained over 18 million users throughout the globe.
"Pebble is such an exciting partner for RunKeeper; it is a great device and a powerful showcase of how your runs, walks and bike rides with RunKeeper can be enhanced by wearable device integration. We look forward to integrating with more wearable devices in the future," Jacobs said.
Pebble launched on Kickstarter last year had one of the most successful campaigns to date. Developers designed it to be minimalist but fashionable, to blend with everyday life. The customizable Pebble watch can connect to your iPhone or Android smartphone via Bluetooth.
"Pebble integrates tech into people's daily lives in a fashionable and unobtrusive way. We're excited that RunKeeper will be among the first apps to showcase our smart watch's capabilities and how we support your day-to-day interests and activities," Pebble CEO Eric Migicovsky said.
The integration of the Runkeeper app on the Pebble smart watch is set to be a major competitor with the Nike Fuelband. RunKeeper encourages people to live more active lives with its fitness technology.
"With the RunKeeper app, fitness enthusiasts can benefit from Pebble to track their workouts, get motivated and meet their goals," Migicovsky said. The Pebble smart watch is available for pre-order getpebble.com.
