The recently launched HTC One is currently one of the most-popular Android smartphones around and it seems that its release has reduced the demand for other HTC handsets in the market. The HTC Droid DNA, launched in Nov. 2012, now sees a price drop and is on offer for only $19.99 on a two-year contract.
The Verizon exclusive Droid DNA is also known as the HTC Butterfly to many smartphone users. Now the handset may not be able to compete with other top-end smartphones such as the the HTC One, Xperia Z or the Galaxy S4, but the HTC Droid DNA LTE still packs some of the best hardware specifications, and may attract many customers looking out for an alternative to all high-end smartphones available in the market today.
Amazon is selling the handset for $19.99 on a new two-year contract and unfortunately you have to pay $99.99 if you want to upgrade. The online retailer is also selling the handset for $599.99 outright.
Previously, the price of the Droid DNA had dropped to $49.99 but this is the first time that the handset is on offer at $19.99.
The Droid DNA sports a 5-inch Super LCD3 capacitive touchscreen display, which packs 1080 x 1920 resolution and a whopping 441 pixels per inch (ppi). The smartphone also has a full HD display. At the time of its launch the Droid DNA was the first HTC smartphone to get such a high display resolution and pixel density.
The device is equipped with a 1.5GHz quad-core Krait CPU with Qualcomm MDM615m/APQ8064 chipset. The smartphone also has an Adreno 320 GPU and 2GB of RAM. The Droid DNA has 16GB of on-board storage and no option for a microSD card.
The Droid DNA runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and HTC Sense 4+ on top. A 2020mAh battery fuels the Droid DNA and supports up to 12 hours and 40 minutes of talk time.
The Droid DNA boasts an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus and LED flash, and a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera. Users can also shoot video at 1080p with stereo sound and video stabilization. Connectivity options like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Near Field Communication (NFC) are available on the device.
