Future Of TV: Virtual Reality Will Take TV To Next Level Very Soon

The future of TV now lies in the capable hands of virtual reality TV programs that have slowly made its way into some people's living room. Although it's getting more popular now, this TV watching concept had multiple failed attempts in past decades. However, the recent marketing and release of a new generation of VR headsets from Sony, Google, Samsung, HTC, and Oculus VR has brought the technology back to the limelight.

Admittedly, we still have not seen a big explosion of these headsets as successful TV accessories. The modern concept of using a headgear to enjoy familiar and favorite TV shows still has not caught on with most people. However, the trend is pointing in an optimistic direction where it will be common for people to experience not just movie but also TV programs in 3D.

According to the Global News, a virtual reality TV channel has finally undertaken the radical change, taking the first step to the future of TV. In December 2016, the TV channel Showcase has made known to the world a new innovative program called Halcyon. It would combine the unique elements of VR with the typical TV show fare.

The new cool program is an interactive police procedural with a twist that consists of 10 short-form webisodes and five interactive VR episodes. The TV program's unique feature would allow the viewers, to be truly part of the show through. To optimize experience with this innovative and interactive program, the viewers should have Oculus Rift and Samsung Gear VR, powered by Oculus.

According to The Guardian, more of this virtual reality mode is expected to be combined with TV programs in 2017 after more and more tech and entertainment companies realize the potential of this type of TV viewing. The television industry is in the process of understanding whether real-life headsets can be used to deliver various forms of TV programs such as drama, documentary, and storytelling. In the meantime, the VR tech firms will continue to stoke people's curiosity just as Morpheus had enlightened Neo in The Matrix.
