Aston Martin CC100 Speedster Concept Commemorates 100 Years Of Racing

Aston Martin turned 100 this year and to celebrate, the famed British automaker released the CC100 Speedster Concept. The Speedster speaks to the very soul of what an Aston Martin is and always has been –– a racer's car.

The Aston Martin CC100 Speedster Concept is powered by a 6-liter V-12 engine that, along with a number of other components, are borrowed from some of the company's better-known offerings like the Vantage, DB9, Vanquish and Rapide.

The company says it only took six months to assemble the CC100 Speedster Concept, which is pretty phenomenal given the two to three year production pipeline demanded by most automobiles. Although Aston Martin has no plans to mass-produce the vehicle, it has indicated that it will incorporate certain design elements from the CC100 Speedster Concept into future production models.

The car made its debut over the weekend at the 24-hour race at Nürburgring, boasting an all-carbon-fiber chassis, 555 horsepower, a zero to 60 speed under four seconds and top speed of 180 mph.

As should be expected from a car only produced once and made specifically for racing, it lacks many creature comforts. If you get caught in the rain, there is no retractable roof to attach. The CC100 is a roadster, regardless of the weather or your disposition. It also doesn't really have doors. A small bar latches down to keep your body in the vehicle while you're pushing 180 mph, but your lower legs will be completely exposed through a gap in the carbon fiber that we can only assume is intended to further reduce the car's weight.
