Samsung is preparing to unveil the Galaxy S4 Mini on June 20 barely three months after it launched its flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S4. However, the company has already revealed the specs of the device.
Samsung revealed the details about the Galaxy S4 Mini through its official blog. The Galaxy S4 Mini will have a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display. Under its case will be a 1.7GHz dual-core chip working with a 1.5GB of RAM. It has a total of 8GB internal storage but users can expand it to 64 GB using a microSD. The newest smartphone from the South Korean manufacturer will have an 8-megapixel main camera and a 1.9-megapixel camera on the front. The Galaxy S4 Mini will run on Android 4.2.2 or Jelly Bean.
Other features include Group Play that allows users to listen to the same music and play the same games. It also has S Translator that provides instant voice or text translation that may come handy for international travelers.
The Galaxy S4 Mini will come in two colors, Black Mist and White Frost. It will be able to support 4G LTE, 3G HSPA+ or 3G Dual SIM depending on the market.
The little brother of the Galaxy S4 will be one of the products that will be unwrapped by the South Korean technology giant at the Earl's Court in London, according to a report by Wall Street Journal, which cited 'reliable' sources.
During the event, Samsung is expected to roll out new devices that run on Windows Phone OS and on Android. The move does not surprise industry experts as it did the same last year. Samsung released the Galaxy S3 Mini not long after the Galaxy S3 landed in the hands of the consumers.
Earlier this week, the UK website of Samsung for mobile apps gave consumers a peek of the Galaxy S4 Mini when it briefly listed the product complete with images and a product number. This accidental spill about the smaller version of the Galaxy S4 has since been removed but it could have prompted Samsung to make the specs of the device known.
Bloomberg analysts have praised the market research capability of Samsung Electronics saying that it is fast becoming the first smartphone manufacturer that operates in real time. The report cited how Samsung pays close attention to what consumers say and then spends a good amount of time and considerable budget to understand the customer sentiments. This way the manufacturer is able to find gaps in the market and fill that gap with innovative products. A good example is how Samsung built the Galaxy S3 Mini just five months after the launch of the Galaxy S3.
It seems Samsung is even getting better at it. The company launched the Galaxy S4 just last March and now comes the Galaxy S4 Mini barely three months after. It has sold 10 million Galaxy S4 unita as of April and that will surely help the company snatch an early lead over its rival Apple Inc., which is expected to launch the latest iteration of its popular iPhone, later this year.
