Someone has discovered the force within him and made a lightsaber. The first part of the sentence might not be true but a certain Styropyro, a YouTube user, has created a homemade lightsaber that burns through things.
The lightsaber from "The DIY Laser Guy" emits a blue light from a handheld laser and can burn paper, electrical tape, cardboard, wooden splint, a ping-pong ball, and can be used to push a little toy car around.
In a YouTube video, Styropyro demonstrated what his homemade Star Wars lightsaber can do. While it might not be the weapon of choice of Obi Wan Kinobi, the homemade lightsaber can be a pretty dangerous toy.
"I usually try to refrain from using the term 'lightsaber' when referring to my lasers, but there really isn't much else out there to describe this laser."
The lightsaber, which Styropyro called the BEAST, was crafted from a diode derived from a digital light processing projector powered by two lithium ion batteries from old laptops. The laser was then placed in a metal housing that is comfortable to hold.
"This laser uses the new 9mm 450nm laser diode and runs on two 18650 Li Ion batteries. The housing is a custom machined "Sirius" host," Styropyro described the project.
"To be honest I don't even like handheld lasers this strong, but I knew by subscribers would like this! This laser is legal to own in the US, and I wore goggles while shooting this video," the homemade lightsaber maker added.
The laser hobbyist also hinted that he is working on a homemade laser gun. Styropyro is also planning to upload tutorial videos for DIY laser projects.
The homemade ligthsaber might not be that dangerous but a safety lock to keep it off might be a good idea. With a blue laser in use, this gives away Stryopyro's identity as a Jedi Knight since Sith Lords commonly use red.
"Can it cook bacon?" a YouTube user asked in the comments section of Styropyro's video.
