It has been a long time coming, but fans of the Watch Dogs franchise are finally getting more major news about the upcoming movie adaptation. With the addition of another actor in its cast, it means that the film is already progressing further.

Tom Blyth Joins the 'Watch Dogs' Cast

Other than the "Borderlands" movie adaptation, "Watch Dogs" has also taken so many years before it saw any significant progress. First announced in 2013, it even preceded the existing video games it will be based on.

After a decade, we can finally imagine what the movie might look like as we get another lead actor into the fold. Blyth is known for his role as the young Coriolanus Snow, in "The Hunger Games" prequel "The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes."

He will be acting alongside Sophia Wilde, with the direction of Mathieu Turi, the script of Christie LeBlanc, and the writing contribution of Victoria Bata, as reported by Game Spot. Originally Sony Pictures, the film will now be handled by New Regency.

Of course, the cast has yet to be completed. There's still the role of Aiden Pearce to be filled, who is the main protagonist of the first game and made appearances in the succeeding games, Watch Dogs 2 and Watch Dogs Legion.

The movie will likely be set in Chicago since it's the location where the first game took place. If the other games are acknowledged in the film, we might also be seeing settings like San Francisco and London.

Unfortunately, the news of a new cast member is the only news that has emerged. The movie's release window has not been revealed, which is already unlikely in the first place given that the role of the lead actor has not been filled yet.

'Watch Dogs' Director Has Another Adaptation

Mathieu Turi is going to be busy in the next couple of years as Watch Dogs is not the only video game franchise he's bringing to screens. Through X, the director announced that he will also be working on the adaptation of the A Plague Tale games.

The director will be working with the game's developers, Asobo Studios, as well as Focus Entertainment for the creation of the film. In case you don't know, the Plague Tale franchise is comprised of two double-A games focused on the story of two siblings.

In the first game, A Plague Tale: Innocence, the de Rune family finds their lives turned upside down after the Inquisition attacks their home. To make things worse, they were already in the middle of a plague. It forces the protagonist, Amicia de Rune, to flee taking her brother with her.

The brother, Hugo de Rune, has been sick his entire life. As they evade the pursuing Inquisition, Amicia also has to find the cure for Hugo as his condition worsens. Set in France during the 1300s, it would be interesting to see how such a tragedy with added fiction would be turned into a live-action film.
