Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom passes through the FCC just in time for its June 20 launch

Samsung is expected to announce three new members of the Galaxy S4 family at a press event it is holding in London on June 20. The last of the three smartphones, the Galaxy S4 Zoom has just passed through the FCC and it looks like it will be joining the Galaxy S4 Active on AT&T.

The smartphone maker is adding three new smartphones to the Galaxy S4 family and each will have a very distinctive role - the Galaxy S4 Mini will be a smaller version of the flagship Galaxy S4, while the Galaxy S4 Active's metal shell will make it a tougher version of the Galaxy S4, and the Galaxy S4 Zoom will be marketed as a smartphone/camera hybrid with its rumored 16-megapixel camera and 10x Optical Zoom.

The Galaxy S4 Zoom's FCC filing reveals that the smartphone will include quad-band GSM and HSPA+ support and it will be compatible with AT&T's network in the U.S. We recently reported that the Galaxy S4 Active is also expected to hit AT&T in the near future.

The Galaxy S4 Zoom is expected to feature a 4.3-inch 540 x 960 Super AMOLED display, run Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, be powered by a 1.6GHz dual-core processor, include 8GB of internal storage, 2GB or RAM, include a 16-megapixel rear camera with 10x Optical Zoom, a 1.9-megapixel front facing camera, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, A-GPS, a microSD expansion slot with support for up to 64GB microSD cards, and a 1900 mAh removable battery.

While the specs of the smartphone are mid-range, the S4 Zoom's main attraction is that 16-megapixel camera with 10x Optical Zoom, which makes it the highest quality camera Samsung has ever included on a smartphone. The Galaxy S4 Zoom is expected to be similar in size to the Galaxy S4 Mini since it is rumored to share the same 4.3-inch display as opposed to the 5-inch displays found on the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S4 Active.

We only have a few more weeks to go to until we get all of the official details, including carrier partners for all three smartphones at Samsung's premier event on June 20 in London. We'll be covering the event and will provide you with all the news as it happens. So stay tuned.
