Pictures of the Huawei Ascend P6 have been leaking online for a while now and last week, the company released a photo and teaser video ahead of the phone's launch. On Tuesday, the company officially rolled out the P6, which it bills as the world's slimmest smartphone.
The Huawei Ascend is the flagship phone in the Ascend P series. It is 0.24 inches thick and has a weight of 120g. It has an aluminum build that evokes the aesthetics of the iPhone 5 and HTC One. It is definitely a gorgeous device and Huawei is positioning it to appeal to image-conscious consumers - describing the phone as "the embodiment of elegance with an edge" and "perfect for selfies."
"The HUAWEI Ascend P6 is a star among smartphones with its industry-leading design, high-quality camera, and intuitive user interface, Huawei's proprietary Emotion UI," said Richard Yu, chief executive officer of Huawei Consumer Business Group in a press statement. "Building on the success of our Ascend P series of fashion smartphones, the HUAWEI Ascend P6 provides unsurpassed technology and a design that is simply stunning."
The company unveiled the Ascend P6 at an event in London and the phone will be hitting stores in China and Western Europe in the coming months. Though many European and Asian countries are slated to receive the phone, Huawei still has very little presence in the US, so a domestic roll out is pretty unlikely.
The Huawei Ascend P6 has a 4.7-inch display and 1.5GHz quad-core processor. The front-facing camera boasts an impressive 5-megapixel resolution, while the rear camera delivers 8 megapixels. The phone runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with the Emotion UI skin running on top. It has a "MagicTouch" feature that allows users to operate the touchscreen even while wearing gloves. The P6 comes in black, white and pink.
