Nokia has already launched a couple of top-end smartphones in May this year and the company has an event scheduled for July 11 where the EOS is expected to make its debut. The Finnish company is now expected to launch another smartphone on Sept. 19.
Nokia recently posted an image of an unknown smartphone on its Facebook page, which could be the rumored phablet. The image has a calendar reminder as "Being Awesome" for Sept. 19 2013 at 12:00. Going with the weather tile on the smartphone we can assume that the event will be held in Stockholm.
Many customers these days prefer smartphones with displays of 5-inch-and-over, devices also referred to as phablets. However, currently there are no Windows Phone 8 (WP8) powered phablets around. Nokia will be the first company to launch a WP8-powered phablet.
Nokia has been very aggressive with WP8 smartphones and currently the company has the biggest range of WP8 smartphones on offer, having successfully launched WP8 smartphones in entry-level, mid-level and top-end segment of the smartphone space. With the launch of a WP8-powered phablet, Nokia may want to capitalize on the phablet market as well.
The phablet market is dominated by a handful of top-end handsets, led by the Galaxy Note 2. Rumors also indicate that the Galaxy Note 3 will launch in September this year. So, it will be interesting to see if the rumored Nokia phablet will pose a threat.
