The low-cost iPhone is expected to be announced in September alongside the iPhone 5S and iOS 7. A new report claims to have spent some time with the budget iPhone and has posted images and a video of the alleged device.
Apple is expected to shake things up with the release of its latest iPhone. The company is expected to launch two iPhones instead of its usual single flagship model. There have been numerous reports that Apple will begin to focus on the mid-range and high-end smartphone market with the release of the lower-cost iPhone and iPhone 5S in September. There have been recent leaks of what has been reported to be the budget iPhone's plastic case. The smartphone is expected to be offered in multiple colors and will carry a price tag that will make consumers consider it over similarly priced Android smartphones.
A new report claims to have spent some time with the budget iPhone and has posted initial thoughts, images, and a video of the smartphone. The low-cost iPhone will reportedly be mostly made from plastic. The source claims that it does not feel cheap in the hands like Samsung smartphones and it feels very sturdy. Apple has been rumored to be using a polycarbonate material for its case, which has been described as being similar to the casing of Nokia's Lumia smartphones. The source also claims the smartphone will have a 4-inch display, but does not indicate if it will be a Retina Display.
When it comes to the design of the low-cost iPhone, the source says that its shape is very similar to the original iPod. Again, numerous rumors have claimed this same design. The images show a second microphone has been added to the device and is right next to the headphone port. The images also show the Lightning port and speaker. The speaker are now 4 circular holes, which also have been claimed to have been redesigned to look like the new cellular signals found in iOS 7.
Chris Change, Editor of M.I.C. Gadget blog, which has a decent track record with posting information on unannounced devices, wrote this new report. The video shows what is supposedly the low-cost iPhone, but ends with an announcement of budget Android smartphone using the same exact design onf the budget iPhone. Take this with a huge grain of salt, as we'll likely see more of these reports as we get closer to September.
