Apple Event Will Take Place on March 8: Expect the Launch of New iPhone SE, Upgraded iPad Air, M2 Chip, and More

Apple finally announced that its first event will occur on March 8 which will be referred to as "Peek Performance."

In addition to this, several rumors expect that the event will introduce a third-generation iPhone SE, a new iPad Air, and the latest M2 chip.

Apple Event 'Peek Performance' Will Take Place On March 8

In the recent Twitter post of Apple SVP Marketing Greg Joswiak, he posted a short clip with a caption that reads: "Peek performance. March 8th. See you there. #AppleEvent."

To further explain the first Apple event this year, the said event, which will be called 'Peek Performace,' will take place on Tuesday, March 8 at 10:00 a.m. PT.

Peek Performance will be held at the Steve Jobs Theater on the Apple Park campus in Cupertino, California.

According to Macrumors, this event will remain digitalized with no members of the press invited in person due to the ongoing public health crisis. It is also expected that the third-generation iPhone SE, the latest iPad Air, the M2 chip, and more will make their debut.

Third Generation iPhone SE

For those curious to know about the third-generation iPhone SE, Macworld reported that this device is expected to have a resemblance with iPhone 8.

Renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes that the tech giant is set to release a new SE model with a 4.7-inch LCD, a Home button with Touch ID, and no Face ID.

Corroborating this iPhone SE leak, Display Supply Chain Consultants' Ross Young also noted last October that the next iPhone SE would have the same 4.7-inch display as the current model.

Despite this rumor, Macworld also noted that the third-generation iPhone SE is expected to be the cheapest 5G Apple device. Based on the price range of the iPhone 12 mini and the previous iPhone SE, there is a possibility that this device will cost around $449 to $499.

Both Macotakara and Nikkei Asia expect this device to have the same processor as the current iPhone 13.

Revamped iPad Air

Similar to the third generation iPhone SE having a 5G capability, the revamped iPad Air is also expected to have an optional 5G.

CNET also anticipates that the new iPad Air will include auto zooming and a wider-angle front-facing Center Stage camera available on 2021 iPads.

While for its size, there is a possibility that this device will essentially be a larger version of the iPad Mini, which was released half a year ago. For instance, if the revamped iPad Air will be much cheaper as compared to the iPad Pros, it may become the preferred Apple product of many users.

Improved MacBook Pro and Mac Mini

In 2020, fans were delighted when the M1 Chip was introduced to the market.

Since the M1 chip appears to perform better than Intel-based Macs, Macrumors also reported that the Cupertino-based technology company is considering a higher-end Mac mini with enhanced M1 Pro and M1 Max processors.

With this release, the improved Mac minis will replace the current Intel Mac mini alternatives.

Apart from this, the 13-inch MacBook Pro also appears to have an enhanced M2 chip. Even though this has an upgraded chip, this Apple laptop seems to be identical to the current 13-inch model.

In case you're wondering about the mentioned M2 chip, Macrumors explained that it will have the same 8-core CPU as the M1, but consumers must expect improved performance and efficiency, as well as GPU upgrades.

Additionally, the M2 chip will have 9 and 10-core GPU options, as opposed to the original M1 chip's 7 and 8-core GPU possibilities.

For those who missed the previous Apple event, the tech giant introduced an updated MacBook Pro, new AirPods, as well as the HomePod mini.
