Apple is discontinuing its release of a bigger iMac in the meantime, focusing its attention on other products and features.
However, analysts predict that Apple is currently working on an iMac Pro which can be released later this year or in 2023. The recent Apple Event launched also launched the new Mac Studio and Studio Display.
Apple Discontinue Larger iMac
Apple is reportedly discontinuing the production of their originally planned release of a 27-inch iMac that is still designed using an Intel processor.
When it comes to the iMac, the company currently has no plans to release new high-end versions of its all-in-one desktop computer in the near future.
During the recent Apple Event last March 8, Apple unveiled multiple upgraded products. The all-new Mac Studio and Studio Display were also unveiled during the event.
Numerous spectators are thinking that the company might launch a new iMac Pro in replacement for the 27-inch iMacs. However, the recent launch of Mac Studio and Studio Display proves it wrong.
According to sources speaking to 9to5Mac, Apple does not currently have plans to release a larger-screen iMac in the near future. The information comes from the same sources that gave 9to5Mac the heads up on the plans for Mac Studio and Studio Display months before they were officially announced.
In addition, MacRumors reported that Apple is working with the new series of MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and Mac mini using the new M2 chip.
iMac Release Predictions
Rumors have circulated for months that a new Mac all-in-one with a large screen is in the works, according to a variety of credible sources.
As per display analyst Ross Young, the source of his information about the iMac release might have assumed that the actual released Studio Display Pro is an iMac Pro. Young also added that the Studio Display Pro might be coming later this year together with an iMac Pro release.
Young is also convinced that an iMac Pro will be released this summer, and the information provided by 9to5Mac appears to support that belief.
For the time being, Apple "currently has no plans to release new high-end versions of its all-in-one desktop for now". However, in 2023, the company does plan to release a 24-inch M2 version of the iMac in 2023.
Ming-Chi Kuo, a leading Apple analyst, predicted on Sunday that an iMac Pro would be released in 2023.
On Twitter, renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated that Apple will not release an iMac Pro or Mac Pro until 2023, but that the company will still release an external 27-inch display without mini-LED sometime this year.
According to Kuo's predictions for Apple's Mac lineup in 2022 and 2023, the company plans to release a new high-end Mac mini as well as a 27-inch external display without mini-LED in 2022, while an Apple silicon Mac Pro and iMac Pro will not launch until 2023, respectively.
In contrast to information provided by display analyst Ross Young, Kuo's prediction that Apple will not release an iMac Pro until next year is incorrect.
Given the significant discrepancy between the information provided by Kuo and Young, it is possible that the analysts are referring to different pieces of hardware or software.
