Polestar 2 Is Now Available in the US — How Much Will You Have To Pay To Own One?

Polestar 2, the most affordable electric vehicle (EV) of Swedish automaker Polestar, is now available in the United States. Specifically, it is the single-motor variant that has been made available.

Those interested to own a Polestar 2 should take note that deliveries begin next week. Interested buyers can also test drive the EV first before purchasing.

2022 is shaping up to be a big year for Polestar. Not only is its most affordable EV now in the US, its next model, Polestar 2, is due for release this year. Polestar 3 is going to be an SUV.

Polestar 2 Is Now Available in the US

Polestar 2 is coming to the US after initially only being available for pre-order. It is considered as the most affordable EV of Polestar.

According to a report by The Verge, the particular variant of the Polestar 2 headed for the country is the single-motor variant. Deliveries are set to begin next week.

If you would like to own a Polestar 2, you have to be ready to shell out a minimum of $45,900. However, The Verge's report notes that "the price can get down to $33,400 after qualified federal and state incentives."

For reference, the federal EV tax credit amounts to $7,500. There are also certain states that offer additional incentives for purchasing an EV.

Those who are considering making a purchase can also opt to test drive the Polestar 2 first. It should also be noted that the Swedish electric automaker is offering two options for its upgrades for the Polestar 2.

First, there is the cheaper Pilot Pack, which includes enhanced safety features for the Polestar 2. Specifically, it has 360-degree camera visibility, LED front fog lights with cornering technology, and more. This pack is priced at $3,200.

The other one is known as the Plus Pack. It features WeaveTech vegan upholstery, a panoramic glass roof, and more. It is prices at $4,000.

The single motor variant of the Polestar 2 is described as "ready for long journeys or city commutes, this version delivers electric performance in all situations" on the Polestar website.

The specs of the Polestar 2 are as follows:

  • Acceleration - 0 to 60 mph in seven seconds
  • Battery - 78 kWh lithium-ion, 27 modules
  • Driveline - Front-wheel drive
  • Motor - Single 231 hp (170 kW) electric motor
  • Speed - 265 miles
  • Top speed - 100 mph

The Verge also points out that "when it's time to charge, the Polestar 2 can accept 150 kWh of DC fast charging, meaning an 80 percent charge is possible in 40 minutes."

Polestar's Future Plans

The Verge's report notes that Polestar only has two models as of press time: Polestar and Polestar 2.

However, the automaker clearly has big plans for its future as Polestar 3, an SUV, is scheduled for release this year. A compact SUV, Polestar 4, is expected to come out next year.

That is not at all. Polestar 5, a sports sedan, is scheduled for release in 2024. Polestar also has a roadster concept called Polestar O2 in the works, per The Verge.
