Google Pixel 6's camera and charging problems are now a thing of the past.
Google recently released its April 2022 update for the smartphone in question that included various bug fixes and improvements, including improvements for wireless charging performance and camera fixes.
The tech giant added that the update's rollout will start today and continue over the next week in phases depending on carrier and device. 9to5Google mentioned that the update became available for OTA download/install at around noon PT.
Google Pixel 6 April Update Details
According to Google's announcement, the April update for Google Pixel 6 smartphones comes with additional improvements for wireless charging performance with certain accessories. However, the company did not clarify what "certain accessories" meant.
However, one of these "certain accessories" could include the Qi charging stands that users reported on Reddit and other forums since December 2021, according to PiunikaWeb. The Google Pixel Stand may also be a part of these accessories, according to an XDA Developers forum post.
The April update also has fixes for the issues plaguing Google Pixel 6's camera. Specifically, the issues wherein the smartphone's front-facing camera previews in certain apps appear zoomed in and the one that occasionally causes a green screen to appear in camera preview.
It also has fixes for other issues that affect the smartphone's System UI, live wallpapers, animations when canceling a search in the app drawer, the overview screen while TalkBack is active, and the "recents" button. These fixes are available to all Google smartphones, from the Pixel 3a to the Pixel 6 Pro.
Meanwhile, the wireless battery charging performance improvement and camera fixes are only for the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro Google phones.
Engadget reported that the April update arrived just in time this year, which is a notable feat due to Google's updates arriving late. In fact, Google's March 2022 update arrived two weeks later than expected.
The April update also came with fixes for several security flaws for Google's smartphones, per Google's April update security bulletin.
Google Pixel 6 Issues History
Google users previously reported on online forums that they noticed their Google Pixel 6 smartphones have a slow charging rate than usual or that they stop charging intermittently, according to GetDroidTrips.
Users also found and reported the issue regarding the Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro's front camera back in November 2021, when users found that the front camera is "super zoomed-in" while using certain apps like WhatsApp, in the case of Reddit user k3nny24.
PiunikaWeb reported in a separate article that Google was allegedly aware of the problems regarding the Google Pixel 6's front camera, adding a screenshot of a Google Forum post asking for troubleshooting tips that mentioned WhatsApp.
The problem persisted even in early 2022, with GetDroidTips reporting in early February that some users making video calls on WhatsApp noticed that the picture from their front camera looked zoomed in by default.
