Canadian carrier Bell confirmed that its plans to offer the Sony Xperia Z later this month and now rumors suggest that the handset will launch on the carrier on July 30.
Sony launched its flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z, at the International CES earlier this year and the handset was amongst the first water proof and dust proof phones available in the market. Sony also launched the Xperia ZL along with the Xperia Z, which has very similar hardware specifications. However, the ZL is not water resistant and dust proof like the Xperia Z.
The Xperia ZL launched on a few Canadian carriers including Bell, Rogers and Videotron from April onwards; however, the Xperia Z will be exclusive to Bell only. Recently Bell also opened pre-registration of the Xperia Z but didn't announce a launch date for the handset.
"This will be available in all three glorious colours (black, white and purple) and while they didn't give a specific date, the contest page hinted its potential release of July 30th. We can now confirm this date to be the official launch day," reports Mobile Syrup.
The Xperia Z comes packed with top-end features which includes a 5-inch 1080 x 1920p display, 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor, 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with Exmor RS, 2GB RAM, 16GB of internal storage and a 2,330 mAh battery. The handset runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
Recenty, Bell Xperia ZL customers received Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update on their handsets. So customers will hope that the Xperia Z will either come running on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean straight out of the box or get a software update as soon as the handset is launched.
Rumors also suggest that Sony may launch a refreshed version of the Xperia Z with improved hardware specifications. However, Sony has not confirmed that it plans to launch an updated version of the handset.
Currently, Bell is selling the Xperia ZL at a price tag of $0.00 on a three-year contract. Bell has not confirmed the price of the Xperia Z but we hope it should be in the range of $49.99 to $99.99 on a three-year contract.
