Canadian carrier Bell has begun pushing out the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean software update to its Sony Xperia ZL customers.
Sony launched the Xperia ZL along with the flagship handset Xperia Z at the International CES event in January this year. Both the Xperia Z and the Xperia ZL have very similar hardware specifications but there are still some notable differences between the handsets. One of the key differences is that the Xperia ZL is not dust-proof and water-resistant like the Xperia Z. However, the IR-enabled handset still packs an impressive range of features to entice customers looking for a top-end smartphone.
The Sony offering packs in a 5-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen with 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution and a pixel density of 441 pixels-per-inch (ppi). The handset also sports a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing shooter.
The Xperia ZL comes running on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean but some European regions have already started to receive roll the latest software update, according to a recent XperiaBlog report.
"Sony Mobile has released the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update for Xperia ZL (C650X) users. The screenshot below shows that new firmware build 10.3.A.0.423 is available for the European LTE version of the handset (C6503). Reports are also coming in that the HSPA+ version (C6502) is also receiving the update," reported the publication.
Now Mobile Syrup claims to have received an internal document which shows the software update for the Sony Xperia ZL. The update will bring new lock screen features and lock screen widget panes, as well as an interactive notification panel.
Following the update, the Xperia ZL can proactively address instances where third-party VoIP apps could interfere when dialing E911.
With Bell rolling out the latest firmware update to Sony Xperia ZL it will be interesting to see how swiftly other Canadian carriers like Rogers and more follow suite.
