LG will be holding a press event on August 7 in New York City where it will unveil its next flagship smartphone, the LG G2. The company's CFO confirms Verizon will launch the ultra-thin smartphone in September.
LG has been focusing on the designs of its smartphones lately. It currently makes Google's Nexus 4 and the device has been highly regarded for its design. The smartphone has a similar build to Apple's iPhone 4 and 4S, having its body built out of glass. LG is getting ready to launch its new flagship smartphone at its New York City event in a little more than a week.
The company has already confirmed that it will be announcing the LG G2. The smartphone has seen multiple leaks in images and videos. The way LG plans on making its smartphone stand out from rival devices can be found mostly in its design and features. The G2 is reportedly so thin that LG had to put its volume buttons and power button on the back of the handset's case, because there was not enough room on the sides of the device. The buttons are also expected to act as controls for scrolling, so a user doesn't need to block the screen with a finger.
LG's CFO, David Jung, was speaking with a Korean news outlet and revealed when his company's flagship smartphone would ship. He told the publication that the LG G2 will launch in South Korea in August, almost immediately after its unveiling. Jung then went on to say that the smartphone would launch in North America and Europe in September, with additional markets to follow in October. The CFO also told the publication that Verizon would be getting the G2 in September.
The LG G2 is expected to land on AT&T and T-Mobile in September as well. The smartphone recently passed through the FCC with support to run on both carriers' networks.
The LG G2 is expected to feature a 5.2-inch 1920 x 1080 Full HD display, a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 32GB or 64GB of internal storage, 2GB of RAM, 4G LTE-Advanced radio and a 13-megapixel rear camera, Wi-fi, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC, and IR blaster. We'll have to wait until August 7 to hear the official details from LG and find out which carrier partners will offer the LG G2 to consumers.
