BMW's first high-performance hybrid car will soon be available across the globe.

The automaker stated in its recent announcement that XM EV is currently completing the final phase of its series development process following the company's presentation of its XM concept a few months ago.

BMW's XM EV is said to be available for purchase later this year, according to a CNET report.

BMW XM Hybrid Vehicle Specifications

According to BMW's announcement, the prototypes of the XM are demonstrating the high level of maturity of their drive and suspension technology in an "intensive test program" and that it is ready to "redefine high performance, luxury, and sovereignty."

BMW's first high-performance hybrid will come equipped with a plug-in hybrid powertrain that combines its S58-generation 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with a lithium-ion battery pack to power it.

BMW has yet to disclose how big its lithium-ion battery pack is.

This combination is expected to produce 644 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque, which is less than what BMW said when it debuted the car's concept in November 2021, during that year's Art Basel, according to a separate CNET report.

Back then, BMW claimed that the XM would have 750 horsepower and 737lb-ft of torque.

Fortunately, BMW XM Project Manager, Sven Ritter, told CNET that the car would have two variants: the standard one, which is the one being discussed right now, and the higher-output one that matches what BMW made during Art Basel 2021.

The hybrid's twin-turbo V8 engine comes with eight cylinders, while the electric motor was said to be "particularly powerful," making the XM hybrid ideal for intermediate sprints on motorways and stop-and-go traffic in the city to steep mountain passages and narrow serpentines.

The XM Hybrid has a battery range of 80 kilometers, according to WLTP, along with an instantaneous power delivery that ensures dynamic acceleration in situations when a burst of speed is needed, such as when starting off at traffic lights.

This burst of speed can be accessed through the EV's Electric Mode.

The BMW XM also has an Adaptive M Professional suspension as standard, along with a model-specific version of the suspension's springs, electronically controlled shock absorbers, and an electromechanical roll stabilizing system with 48-volt technology. This hardware, when combined with the additional Active Roll Comfort function, reduces rolling movements due to uneven road surfaces on one side and adjusts the body height on the side of the vehicle with the uneven side.

The Hybrid will also have a model-specific M Brake system, the latest generation of the integrated brake system, and optional light-allow wheels up to 23 inches in size. When combined, these three offer BMW XM drivers handling that can be precisely controlled even in highly dynamic driving situations.

BMW XM Hybrid Pricing and Release Date

Although BMW didn't mention how much the two variants will retail, BMW Blog mentioned that the standard version could be priced at $180,000 in the US, if not higher.

Meanwhile, Top Electric SUV predicts that the XM Hybrid's standard version will have a price tag of $110,000 to $115,000.

The higher-output version is expected to be priced much higher than the standard version.

CNET reported that the BMW XM Hybrid car would be available in the US this September.
