George Lucas is a man popularly known as the father of the "Star Wars" franchise, and for good reason: he created and expanded the franchise's universe to what it has become.

However, the "Star Wars" movies weren't the only film he created. Back in 1988, a film that didn't take off as much as the Star Wars movies that featured a George Lucas story was released.

That very same film is being remade and is coming to the small screen this year.

Disney recently released a teaser trailer for George Lucas' other creation, "Willow," a TV series for Disney+ based on the same 1988 film mentioned earlier.

'Willow' Remake Details

According to Disney's announcement, Willow features the story of an aspiring magician from a Nelwyn village and an infant girl destined to unite the realms and destroy an evil queen and banish the forces of darkness.

This particular Lucas original isn't set in a sci-fi galaxy, far, far, away, but in a magical world where brownies (the household spirits of folklore, not the chocolate-baked confection), sorcerers, trolls, and other mystical creatures flourish.

Additionally, the TV series stars Erin Kellyman, known for her role as Enfys Nest in Solo: A Star Wars Story, and Tony Revolori, who played Flash Thompson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's "Spider-Man: No Way Home" movie, according to Mashable.

Warwick Davis, who played Willow in the original "Willow" 1988 movie, will also be reprising his role in the DIsney+ TV series. He is more popularly known for his role as Professor Filius Flitwick and Griphook in the "Harry Potter" films, per IMDb.

Other actors starring in this TV series include Rosabell Laurenti Sellers, the actress who played Tyene Sand in HBO's "Game of Thrones" series, and Ellie Bamber from "The Trial of Christine Keeler," and Dempsey Bryk of "Heartland," according to their respective IMDb pages.

The TV Series will come to Disney+ on November 30, according to the series' trailer.

Why Was 'Willow' Forgotten?

Despite the original 1988 film being nominated for Best Effects for Sound Effects Editing and Visual Effects, as well as being nominated for Best Fantasy Film and Dramatic Presentation, Willow was received lukewarmly by critics at the time, according to Ars Technica.

The 1988 film currently holds a 51% rotten consensus on Rotten Tomatoes, citing that the movie's pace and its generic story pulled the movie down despite the state-of-the-art special effects and Warwick Davis' performance.

The Washington Post also added that the movie's characters are wan and waning at best and that the movie's story is weak, criticizing Lucas for forgetting "the tricks of entertainment" after his success with "Star Wars" and the "Indiana Jones" movies at the time.

Hopefully, the TV series will not feature the same mistakes the original film was faulted on, and it would fix them and improve on the things that made the original film great.
