The Fitness App Will Use iPhone Motion Sensors

According to MacRumors, the Fitness app was previously only accessible on iPhones that are paired with an Apple Watch.

Once you have your ‌iPhone‌ installed with ‌iOS 16‌, the Fitness app will use the ‌iPhone‌'s motion sensors to track things like steps. This means that all the activity that your ‌iPhone‌ tracks can be put toward closing your rings.

With an iPhone, you can set up a daily Move goal in the Fitness app then you can see how your active calories will help close your Move ring.

According to MacRumors, the ‌iPhone‌'s motion sensors can track steps, distance, flights climbed, and workouts from third-party apps. This can be converted into an estimation of active calories to contribute to your daily Move goal.

For additional motivation, you can also share your Move ring with friends.

What is Apple Fitness App?

Apple Fitness is Apple's workout tracking app. If it is running on your iPhone, it displays the current day's activity. When you pair it up with an Apple Watch it does a lot more by motivating you to get and stay fit.

But now you do not need an Apple watch to maximize the function of Apple Fitness app in your iPhone. As long as you're on iOS 16, you can use the app to motivate you to get and stay fit.

Apple Watch tracks your overall activity using its internal sensors. Previously, you use a workout app to helps you tell the Apple Watch, and, by extension, Apple Fitness, when you're working out and what kind of workout you're doing, as per ZDNet report.

But now, using the iPhone motion sensors, you can track your activities and workout even without an Apple Watch.

An Activity app is also present, which helps you check the status of your rings. At the center of the system are three rings that are diabolical in their simplicity and effectiveness.

The red ring is the move ring. This ring tracks your overall movement throughout the day. Meanwhile, the green ring is the exercise ring, which tracks dedicated exercise time. Lastly, the blue ring tracks how many times you stand up throughout the day.

Movement is measured in calories. The app allows you to specify the number of calories you want to burn each day, and as you burn calories, the red ring will slowly close throughout the day.

Meanwhile, workouts are measured through a large range of workout types in the Workout app. Workouts are measured by tracking Watch movements on your body as well as your heart rate, according to ZDNet. The app actually tracks walking and cycling quite well.

There are times when it doesn't track the exercise if you do not get your heart rate high enough. This might result in incorrect readings for folks on heart meds designed to control heart rate.

Closing the rings of your Workout app can motivate you to work out every day.
