Ubisoft is shutting down the online features of a bunch of its older gaming titles, including several Assassin's Creed games as well as the original release of Far Cry 3.
Why is the renowned game publisher doing this all of a sudden?
Ubisoft to Shut Down Online Features of Older Games
As per a news story by PC Gamer, Ubisoft has announced its plans to shut down the online features of some of its older games starting September 1.
The gaming firm listed down a total of 15 games affected by its decision to decommission the online services of games like Rayman Legends.
PC Gamer notes that the move also affects the DLC of its older games, which essentially removes them as well.
Why is Ubisoft Decommissioning the Online Service of its Older Games
In the same announcement, the game developer explained how they came up with the decision to shut down the online features of some of its games.
Ubisoft says in its statement that the move to close down the online services gives them a chance to "focus our resources on delivering great experiences for players who are playing newer or more popular titles."
So, the gaming firm appears to be freeing up its resources to give way to other more recent offerings, which draws more users.
Ubisoft Older Games Affected
But which older Ubisoft games are precisely affected by this move? Here's the complete list of the, unfortunately, affected gaming titles.
Ubisoft is shutting down the online features, multiplayer option, and the ability to link accounts on games like the Anno 2070, Assassin's Creed 2, and Splinter Cell: Blacklist.
Meanwhile, these games are losing the same functions along with the access to their downloadable content (DLC), including four Assassin's Creed titles and Far Cry 3.
Ubisoft is removing the DLC and online functions of the Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, Assassin's Creed Liberation HD, Assassin's Creed 3, and Assassin's Creed Revelations.
These games, Ghost Recon Future Soldier, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sand, and Rayman Legends, are also losing their DLC and online features starting this September.
Meanwhile, the case is pretty much different with Space Junkies, which Ubisoft released in 2019 as a multiplayer-only game. PC Gamer notes that its players would no longer be able to play the game completely.
The list also includes older Ubisoft game offerings like Silent Hunter and ZombiU.
