A new model of the Samsung Galaxy S4 has passed through the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), apparently packing Snapdragon 800 processor and LTE-Advanced (LTE-A).
The Samsung Galaxy S4 is unquestionably one of the most-wanted Android smartphones in the handset space. The Galaxy S4 sports top-end features and includes a Snapdragon 600 processor. However, with the launch of the faster Snapdragon 800 processor, some rumors hint that Samsung may soon launch a refreshed version of the flagship device running on the faster chipset.
"The Samsung GT-i9506 is believed to be an international version of the Galaxy S4 with LTE-Advanced connectivity. Like the S4 LTE-A that was exclusively launched in South Korea in July, the GT-i9506 seems to have a Snapdragon 800 chipset inside," reports Android Greed.
The Android Greed report also added that the FCC has the confirmed model number and its documents show that the number belongs to the Samsung Galaxy S4. FCC's document also suggests that the handset supports band 5, which is only used by U.S. Cellular in the country. It may mean that Samsung is testing one model on band 5 and later may get another handset running on other available bands used in the U.S.
The Snapdragon 600 processor remains one the most powerful processors used in many top-end smartphones. Currently, only a few handsets have been announced which will run on the new Snapdragon 800 processor.
A Snapdragon 800 processor means more processing power on the smartphone, thus making it faster. A Snapdragon 800 processor on the Galaxy S4 instead of the Snapdragon 600 processor is expected to boost CPU performance by 20 percent to 30 percent. GPU performance will also be bumped up by 80 percent.
Samsung has an event scheduled for Sept. 4, where the Korean company is expected to launch the long-awaited Samsung Galaxy Note 3. With the Galaxy S4 running on Snapdragon 800 processor spotted at FCC, many users will hope that the company launches a refreshed version of the Galaxy S4 with a faster processor.
However, the company remains mum on the existence of the Galaxy S4 with a Snapdragon 800 processor, so we will have to wait until Samsung makes an official announcement of its flagship smartphone with a faster processor in tow.
