Windows 10 Google Chrome users could soon set up their default browser in a straightforward single-click process, making the simple task less hassle.
While Windows 11 has made setting default browsers other than its built-in Microsoft Edge pretty much easier, it still needs some work.
Windows vs. Google Chrome: Default Browser Settings
As per a news story by The Verge, Windows 11 and 10 still require a few clicks on the settings menu from its users to set Google Chrome as the default browser rather than going with the flow with Edge.
Initially, the early version of Windows 11 made changing the default browser a tedious chore. It hints that Microsoft is forcing its users to try out its Chromium web browser, Edge.
But after a bunch of heated backlash from Windows users, Microsoft just shrugged it off and made setting Chrome as the default browser less taxing.
The Verge notes in its report that the Windows 11 update last March refined the process by trimming it down to a few clicks in the settings menu.
But this time, it appears that the next Windows 10 update is making the process more straightforward as it should be in the first place.
Windows 10 Google Chrome Updates to Make it Easier
According to a recent report by 9to5 Google, the future update of Windows 10 and Google Chrome is enabling their users to set a default browser without needing to go to the settings menu.
The new workaround would require users to make a single click while using a Google-owned web browser.
Therefore, Windows 10 users, who have Chrome installed, could start setting it up as the default app without actually leaving the browser at all. Yup, the new update ditches the settings menu from the process. In fact, it only needs a single click, and it is all set.
9to5 Google adds in its new story that the new Chrome update on Windows introduces a new option that allows users to set it as their default browser in just a single click.
However, The Verge notes that the new option is only available on the latest Chrome Dev version of the Windows 10 22H2 update.
It is worth noting, though, that the single click feature still does not work on the 22H2 update on Windows 11. So it appears that it would only make it to users of the older version of the Microsoft operating system.
Windows 22H2 is expected to officially see the light of day in the stable channel sometime this fall.
