Instagram's BeReal-like feature is seemingly in the works after an app researcher spotted a new function beneath its app, the IG Candid Challenges.
The leaked new feature that Instagram is testing explains its mechanics, and it sure does seem like how the Gen Z popular app, BeReal, works.
Instagram BeReal-Like Feature
BeReal has made its way to the top most downloaded apps in the Apple App Store as Gen Zs are taking over this new social media platform.
As per the news story by Engadget, Instagram and Facebook currently sits at the eighth and 18th spots, respectively, at the iPhone App Store. Both Meta apps are now trail behind the rookie app, BeReal, which is second to none in the ranking.
And as such, Instagram is working on a new feature that aptly goes by the name Candid Challenges, which appears to be a copy of BeReal.
The spokesperson of Instagram confirmed to the media outlet that the social media service is testing out the said feature, but kept mum on explicit details about it.
To be less vague, no less than the IG spokesperson disclosed that the feature is still an "internal prototype."
App researcher Alessandro Paluzzi initially discovered the new IG Candid Challenges, which he dubs as a BeReal app inspired, in his recent tweet.
Paluzzi, who sports the username alex193a on Twitter, shared a screenshot of the new IG feature.
The photo shows what appears to be a pop-up in the app, which invites users to "Join IG Candid Challenges." It also explains how Candid Challenges work.
And on top of that, there are two options for its Insta users. First one allows them to proceed using the new feature by pressing the blue "OK" button. Or they could also dismiss it by simply tapping on the "Now now" option.
According to a report by Tech Crunch, Instagram recently rolled out a new Dual camera feature that seemingly replicates BeReal. It allows users to take disappearing photos of their front and back smartphone snappers.
How Instagram Candid Challenges Work
The details about the new Instagram feature, which its spokesperson says is an "internal prototype," are still scant as of writing.
But thanks to the digging that app researcher, Paluzzi, did -- we now get a glimpse of its mechanics, which BeReal users might find familiar.
The IG Candid Challenge pop-up that Paluzzi shared invites users "to capture and share a Photo in 2 Minutes" as they get notifications "every day at a different time."
BeReal also works similarly, giving its users a two-minute window, as well, to take selfies and rear photos. But on Instagram, these photos would be shared on their Stories.
