Instagram Makes It Difficult for You to Post Your Reels in a Different App

It appears that users won't be able to make Reels in Instagram that they will post in TikTok, or in another app.

The Verge discovered just this week that the audio from the video clip disappeared when they try to download an edited clip to an iPhone.

What does this mean? This imply that in order to keep the sound, you have to post the Reel first. Afterwards you can export the footage from Reels and post it in another app.

Instagram Mutes Clips Edited on Reels

Back in July, users can still download the video clip with audio and post it in another app without posting it first in Instagram.

But on the three iPhones that The Verge tested, the audio was removed from the clip. On Androids, however, it is still possible to export with audio, according to the news site.

The Verge tried to get the side of Instagram and inquired whether it was just a glitch on the system or an intentional change. The social media platform did not respond to multiple requests for comment.

The in-app tools of TikTok are not specifically "useful for more advanced editing," according to The Verge.

For instance, you cannot apply some filters in editing footage filmed outside the app. Another issue with TikTok is, you cannot download clips that "aren't finished or watermarked."

As a workaround, creators take advantage of Instagram's similar features for Reels. Some creators use Instagram's green screen effect, as it is easier to use in editing than TikTok's version. Afterwards, users download the video clip and post it in TikTok.

Creators use this trick to bypass TikTok's poor editing tool. Moreover, creators take advantage of the video features or filters that are only available on Instagram.

It's a time-consuming task for creators to rely on downloaded Instagram clips, but this proves to be an easy way to create good TikTok videos using filters.

Now that users cannot download the clips with sound, they have two options: use TikTok's poor editing software or upload clips to Instagram Reels.

Instagram Continues to Employ Various Strategies to Break the Market's Competition

There has been an ongoing competition between TikTok and Instagram. And Instagram has been employing various strategies to beat TikTok.

For instance, just last June, Instagram announced a series of updates and new features for its Reels products, as per TechCrunch.

Meta, the owner of Instagram, added support for longer Instagram Reels. Instead to 60 second, users can now enjoy 90 seconds of Reels.

According to TechCrunch, this move follows TikTok's decision to expand to YouTube territory "with videos that can now be 10 minutes," instead of just three minutes prior.

To make Reels more engaging, Instagram also rolled out a number of creative tools, audio tools, templates and other options. The company decided to do this following TikTok's growing influence.

Instagram doesn't stop in improving the app to beat TikTok, as Meta elevates existing features created for Instagram Stories, eventually bringing them to Reels.

These feature include Poll, Quiz and Emoji slider stickers, which are commonly found on Instagram Stories. According to TechCrunch, soon, these will be available as Reels features.
