The iPhone 14 Pro's Dynamic Island feature actually replaces the iPhone's notch, according to a report by 9to5Mac. If you are worried that is not compatible with Apple APIs, you do not have to because the report likewise notes that it works with multiple APIs by default.

So what exactly is it?

Per a report by MacRumors, "Pixels around the Dynamic Island merge it into one pill-shaped area that changes size and shape to accommodate various types of alerts, notifications, and interactions, turning it into a kind of front-and-center information hub."

It has a number of functions to. MacRumors points out that it can confirm Apple Pay payments, show Maps directions, track the arrival time of your Lyft, keep track of sports scores, and more. It also works with Live Activities, which is set to launch with iOS 16.1.

You can likewise expect to see Face ID prompts, battery notifications, and even Focus alerts in Dynamic Island.

App Developers are Having Their Fun with the iPhone 14 Pro's Dynamic Island

There are a number of things you can do with the iPhone 14 Pro's Dynamic Island and app developers are actually already having their fun with the feature, adding to the number of things you can do with it.

According to 9to5Mac, a perfect example is none other than the game Hit the Island. Inspired by a classic game called Pong, all you have to do to score points is to hit the Dynamic Island will balls, which increase in number and speed as you play.

Those who do not have an iPhone 14 Pro can still enjoy Hit the Island as there is a gameplay mode available for those whose iPhones have the usual notch.

A separate report from MacRumors talks about the Reddit app Apollo and its feature that is pretty much a tamagotchi for Dynamic Island known as Dynamic Island Zoo. "The app update adds a small little creature into the area above the Dynamic Island on the new iPhone models," MacRumors explains.

"It can be customized into a cat, dog, hedgehog, fox, or axolotl, and the little creature simply paces around the Dynamic Island while you browse Reddit," the report adds. It should be noted that the Dynamic Island Zoo is an opt-in feature that is included in the latest version of Apollo.
