As Microsoft preps to release its GDR3 update for Windows Phone 8, screenshots of the upcoming OS update, along with Nokia's "Bittersweet shimmer" update, have leaked online.
The latest leak is courtesy of a WPCentral forum member who purchased a new Nokia Lumia 920 off Craigslist and it apparently has GDR3 installed. The user has also posted screenshots of the same.
"So....I just bought this phone off Craigslist and it's running GDR3. Here's a screen shot...LMK what you guys want to know. I tried searching for this build #, but I can not find any info. Maybe you guys have more info," claims the forum member x2sk.
The screenshots show off the new Driving Mode feature, which will automatically mute calls and text messages when the WP8 handset is paired to a car either manually from the settings option or via Bluetooth.
It seems Microsoft has also taken user requests into consideration, as a notable feature the update is set to bring is that users can close apps in multitasking view, a feature Windows Phone users have wanted for some time. The leaked screenshots also show off a screen rotation option.
If the authenticity was circumspect, the credibility of the screenshots has been confirmed by The Verge, which vouches for their genuineness.
"The Verge can confirm that all the screenshots and features are genuine. Microsoft is currently testing the update, which will debut first on the Nokia Lumia 1520 and a HTC Harmony device, and is expected to start rolling out to existing devices later this year," reports the publication.
The GDR3 update (expected to release by November) is purportedly designed for imminent devices like such as the hotly-rumored Nokia Lumia 1520, the Finnish company's first-ever phablet. However, the software update is also expected to bring new features tp the table and improvements for some existing devices as well.
In addition to the leaked screenshots, you can also feast your eyes on the video courtesy of the same leakster, which shows the GDR3 update in action on the Lumia 920. The video also shows off the new multitasking feature, check it out below.
