Amber update hitting all WP8 Lumias by end-September: 'Be patient - It's coming!'

Good news for Nokia Lumia fans as the company has confirmed that the Amber update will be pushed out to all Lumia Windows Phone 8 (WP8) handsets by September end.

Nokia revealed the information via a post on its official Nokia Conversations blog, where the Finnish company answered questions pertaining to the impending Amber update.

The software update, which builds on Microsoft's GDR2 update, has already made its way to some Lumia devices in certain countries. However, since Nokia is pushing out the update in phases, some regions may receive it sooner than others.

"To ensure the software update meets our quality standards, we're running multiple tests with various country variants and operators. We make the updates available to you as soon as we complete testing. With Lumia Amber we expect to have the update arriving in all Lumia Windows Phone 8 phones by the end of September. Be patient - it's coming!" notes the Nokia Conversations blog.

With Nokia expected to roll out the update all WP8 Lumias by September end this year, fans have much to look forward to. However, on the downside, some of the much-awaited features like the "double tap to wake" will not make it to all Lumia handsets.

Nokia has confirmed that certain Lumia devices do not support this feature and, therefore, will skip the same. The devices that will miss this feature are the Lumia 520, Lumia 520 T, Lumia 521, Lumia 620, Lumia 625,Lumia 720 and Lumia 720 T.

"Many features, like 'double tap to wake up the phone', require certain hardware specifications to be available on the phone. Not all of the Lumia Amber features are compatible with all Lumia phones. For these reasons, the 'double tap to wake up the phone' feature is not supported on Lumia 720, Lumia 720T, Lumia 625, Lumia 620, Lumia 521, Lumia 520, or Lumia 520T," confirms Nokia.

Moreover, as we reported previously, the FM Radio feature will not be available on the Lumia 620, Lumia 810 and Lumia 928 as they "do not have the FM radio chip."

Additionally, the Nokia Pro Camera will not come to non-PureView handsets as it "is a high-end imaging application that requires a lot from both hardware and software." The app will initially only be optimized for the top-end Lumia smartphones like the Lumia 920, Lumia 925 and Lumia 928.

However, the flip to silence feature will be available for all Lumia WP8 smartphones.
