Horizon Zero Dawn is allegedly coming to the PlayStation 5.
Guerilla Games, the video game developer behind the popular Horizon series, is reportedly remastering Horizon Zero Dawn to be played on Sony's PlayStation 5 (PS5) console, per MP1st.
MP1st was the first video game publication that broke the news to the public, per a Twitter user going by the name Nibel.
Horizon Zero Dawn Remaster Details
According to MP1st's source, the remastered version of Horizon Zero Dawn will capitalize on the PS5's hardware and capabilities, meaning it will feature an improved lighting system, overhauled textures, and better animations.
It will also use new character models that match or at least look similar to the ones found in its direct sequel, Horizon Forbidden West.
However, it is unknown if the graphical improvements will make players feel like they're playing Forbidden West while exploring the vastness of Colorado in Zero Dawn or not.
Different graphic modes are also allegedly available in the rumored remaster version of Zero Dawn. However, the feature could be a given since the PS5 give game developers the choice to take advantage of the console's variable refresh rate.
The game will also have accessibility options and most, if not all, the quality of life improvements Forbidden West introduced.
If the remaster is true, it will mean that PS5 users who first got into the Horizon series through Forbidden West, especially those without a PlayStation 4 (PS4), will soon be able to play the game that started the series on the PS5.
Currently, Horizon Zero Dawn can only be played on the PS4 and PCs through Steam and the Epic Games Store, according to the official PlayStation website.
Furthermore, although MP1st's source mentioned that the game could get improved lighting, graphics, and quality of life, it isn't sure if Guerrilla Games is working on simply remastering Zero Dawn for the PS5 or remaking it "from the ground up."
You may remember that Horizon Zero Dawn is an open-world action role-playing game that was previously released for the PS4 on May 12, 2017. As a game that is only five years old, it is quite debatable if the game should be remade to better fit Guerrilla's vision for the series.
A Multiplayer-Capable Horizon Game?
In addition to the news of a potential remake/remaster for Zero Dawn, MP1st's other sources revealed that Guerrilla could be developing a Horizon multiplayer game for the PS5 and PC.
Although details about this game are scarce, MP1st's sources said that it will allegedly feature co-op and that the in-game character customization will offer players various clothing options based on the tribes in the series.
Unfortunately, MP1st couldn't verify these pieces of information or clarify if the online multiplayer will feature "any sort of co-op or PVP."
A Horizon multiplayer game isn't that far off from becoming reality. Video Games Chronicle recalled in its article that Sony was interested in adding a multiplayer mode for Zero Dawn and Forbidden West, which would have looked similar to Capcom's Monster Hunter games.
However, Guerrilla decided to save the idea for a future project for either a third entry to the Horizon series or a standalone online spin-off game.
