Counter-Strike has gone a long, long way since starting out as a mod for Half-Life. It is easily one of the most well-know first-person shooter (FPS) games of all time and one of its main games, Counter:Strike Global Offensive, is undoubtedly one of the most popular eSports games today.
It has been more than 20 years since Counter-Strike came to be and it probably comes as no surprise that it is in the Guinness World Records. In fact, let us tell you about five Guinness World Records that are related to Counter-Strike that you might not know of.
Highest-Earning Counter-Strike Country
This one might not come as a surprise to any Counter-Strike fan who pays attention to where tournaments and other events for the game are usually held.
According to the Guinness World Records, the highest-earning Counter-Strike country in the whole world is none other than Sweden. As of March 8, 2017, the European country has earned $2,733,810 thanks to Counter-Strike events.
If you are wondering which country comes in second, it is another European country. If your guess is Germany, you are absolutely right.
First Gaming Clan Represented by a Sports Agent
Despite the huge popularity of eSports today, many would still argue that eSports is not really sports. Well, if it was not, gaming clans would not be represented by sports agents, right? In fact, a sports agent has represented a gaming clan as early as 2005.
According to the Guinness World Records, Swedish gaming clan Ninjas in Pyjamas has been represented by sports agent Johan Strömberg, who has also represented soccer and hockey athletes in the European country.
First Randomized Drug Testing at an eSports Tournament
Believe it or not, there is even a record of when the first ever randomized drug testing during an eSports tournament took place.
On August 23, 2015, the first ever randomized drug testing during an eSports tournament happened during the ESL One Cologne 2015 finals. "The programme was undertaken in partnership with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and Germany's Nationale Anti-Doping Agentur (NADA)," the Guinness World Records notes.

"Then just 16, Johnston based Dust's Middle Eastern theme on screenshots of an ultimately unused map Valve Software was building for an early version of Team Fortress 2, using them as the basis of a looping figure of eight of tunnels, walkways and gateways that provide captivating strategic variety," says the Guinness World Records.
