The Guinness World Records hold, well, almost all the records that have been made in history. From the countless firsts to the most or least of whatever criteria, you are probably going to find it there.
In fact, there are even records for plane crashes in the Guinness World Records. Some of them are also probably not the world records you are expecting. Why? Let's just say that what caused of these plane crashes are most likely not what you expect them to be.
Here are three plane crashes that have made it to the Guinness World Records:
First Fatal Airplane Crash
According to the Guinness World Records, the first fatal airplane crash took place on September 17, 1908. The first ever fatality in history is none other than Thomas Etholen Selfridge, a lieutenant for the United States Army.
On that fateful day, he was a passenger of the plane piloted by Orville Wright. If the name sounds familiar, it is because he is one half of the Wright Brothers, who are credited as the inventors of first motor-operated airplane. So what caused the plane crash.
The Guinness World Records' website says that "the propeller snapped a rudder control wire, which forced the propeller to break and lead to the plane nose diving into a field." Wright survived the crash, but Selfridge passed away three hours after the accident took place.

First Plane Crash Caused by a Dog
It is not easy to get permission to fly pets in an airplane and it may be for good reason.
While the Guinness World Record does not have much information about it, there is a record the first ever plane crash caused by a dog. It took place on November 29, 1976, and the plane that crashed was a Grand Canyon Air Piper 32-300. An unrestrained German Shepherd interefered with the controls of the plane and the whole incident caused it to crash.
First Plane Crash Caused by a Crocodile
If you think domesticated animals are the only ones that have ever caused a plane to crash, well, you are about to be proven wrong. There is a record of the first ever plane crash that could be blamed on a crocodile. Yes, a crocodile in a plane.
The crash took place in the Democratic Republic of the Congo on August 25, 2010. It involved a Filair Let 410 aircraft and majority of the passengers and crew did not know is that someone had smuggled a crocodile into the plane.
According to the Guinness World Records, the crocodile unfortunately escaped and scared the passengers, who all rushed to the cockpit. That resulted in an unbalanced plane, causing it to crash. Only two passengers survived the crash.
Did the crocodile survive? Yes, it did.
