Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 now $119, HTC One just $49 on Amazon

The Verizon variant of the Samsung Galaxy S4 is now available for $119 and the HTC One for $49 on a new contract.

Both the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the HTC One launched in April this year and are among the most popular Android smartphones around. The handsets are currently available from most of the carriers in the U.S.

Now e-retailer Amazon is offering the Verizon variant of the Samsung Galaxy S4 for $119.99 on a new two-year contract and for $129.99 on eligible upgrades. The original price of the handset, if bought directly from Verizon, will set consumers back by $199.99 on either a two-year contract or eligible upgrade. However, if you want to buy the Samsung Galaxy S4 without a service plan, then Amazon is retailing it for $699.99. On the other hand, Verizon is selling the handset for $599.99 outright.

Similarly, the online retailer has a price of $49.99 for the Verizon HTC One on either a two-year contract or eligible upgrade. The carrier itself is retailing the handset for $199.99 on a two-year contract or eligible upgrades directly from its online store.

Both the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the HTC One have attracted millions of customers globally. However, with the launch of newer handsets, the demand for both devices may have dropped. Many customers who now want to buy a new top-end smartphone may get lured by other recently-launched handsets such as the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, iPhone 5S or the iPhone 5C.

Verizon has been quite late with the launch of its version of the HTC One. The Verizon version is not much different from the HTC One models available on other carriers. As such, many customers who wanted the HTC One but couldn't find it on Verizon may have bought it from other operators.

However, both the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the HTC One still remain among the most powerful Android smartphones around, packing top-end features. The Amazon price reduction may still attract some customers who want to buy a new handset.
