Twitter mentioned previously that they will add a feature, in addition, to check mark colors. Specifically, an employee can have a small icon that represents the company they work for. And now, they have made good on that promise and announced "Blue for Business."
How Will It Work?
It will be a subscription service that companies can purchase. This way, they can link their main accounts to their affiliates, indicating that those individuals, businesses, and brands operate under them, as mentioned in The Verge.
It hasn't rolled out completely yet. The platform stated that it's still being tested with a select group of businesses. Twitter is among the first to try the feature out. Esther Crawford, the company's director of product management, as a small Twitter icon beside the verification badge.
Businesses can start subscribing as early as next year. Although, Twitter does say that the features for "Blue for Business" may not be available on all platforms. They also mentioned that the service may have changes in the future.
What's the Purpose?
According to Twitter's blog, it's to allow businesses to create networks within their own organizations on the social media platform. Businesses can connect leaders, brands, support handles, employees, and teams to their main accounts.
It could also be used by publications to verify that a Twitter user is in fact, a journalist that works with them. This also goes for sports team members as well as movie characters that have their own Twitter accounts.
Of course, it's also to bring in a new source of revenue for the company. As said in various articles Twitter has a lot of financials to catch up on, which means they have to get creative so they won't rely solely on advertisement revenue, which is not as good as it was before.
In Case You Missed It
Speaking of verification, Twitter Blue has also been released. It was announced by the company back on December 12th. It will provide subscribers with features like editing tweets, uploading 1080p videos, and reader mode.
Upon verification, the user will also receive the blue checkmark that Twitter offers. The subscription will cost $8 a month for the web, and $11 a month for iOS users. Twitter is working on subscriptions for Android.
The feature is not available worldwide yet, but it already is in countries like the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. This shows that the company is still working on the subscription and may be subjected to changes.
To subscribe to Twitter Blue, accounts must be at least 90 days old, active, have been verified with a phone number, and have not changed any details on their accounts recently. Otherwise, the account will not be considered for verification.
To uphold Elon Musk's rule about impersonations, accounts with blue check marks who make changes in their accounts will temporarily lose their blue check marks. These changes include the display name, profile photo, as well as their username.
The subscription also provides a different verification tag for various companies or organizations. Business accounts will have a gold check mark, while government accounts will feature a grey check mark.
