The 'Borderlands' Movie is Getting a Reshoot with 'Deadpool' Director Tim Miller

If you're excited about the upcoming Borderlands movie, you might just have to wait a little longer. The movie adaptation is returning for reshoots due to staff changes, specifically, the director. It could be good news, depending on how you want the movie to appear.

A New Director it Taking the Lead

Director Eli Roth initially directed the movie. If you don't know any of his works, he's known for films like "Cabin Fever" and "Hostel," which fall under the horror category. He will be replaced by Tim Miller, known for "Deadpool" and "Terminator: Dark Fate."

"Borderlands" began filming in early 2021 in Hungary and showed test screenings in November 2022. The feedback prompted a change in leadership, as mentioned in PC Gamer, but also due to Roth working on another movie, "Thanksgiving."

The movie that Roth will be focusing on is the third of the mock movie trailers that will be turned into an actual movie, coming from Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino's collaboration with the "Grindhouse" movie back in 2007.

It has taken a while for the movie to be created given that its inspiration has been out for more than 15 years. Still, it is finally in motion. It will be a slasher movie that will take place in Massachusetts which will make for a gory annual turkey day.

What to Expect from the Movie?

Of course, it will contain elements from the shooter-looter game it was based on. If you've played the game, you'd know that there are plenty of materials they can bring to the big screen that makes for an action-packed movie, and its cast will make that likely.

The film did not skimp on casting, seeing as Cate Blanchett will be playing the main character, Lilith, an outlaw with a mysterious past who is tasked to find the daughter of the powerful Atlas on her home planet Pandora.

She will be accompanied by other movie industry big names like Kevin Hart who will play Roland, a former elite mercenary, Ariana Greenblatt as Tiny Tina, a demolitionist, Jamie Lee Curtis as Tannis, Tiny Tina's protector, and Jack Black as Claptrap, a clever robot.

Adding It to the Queue

"Borderlands" is not the first to be adapted from the game, and it won't be the last. Since it might take a while before we see the finished work, you can keep yourself busy by watching other game-inspired movies or shows.

One that's close to release is "The Last of Us," starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey from "Game of Thrones." The series is based on a game with the same title and is set to come out on HBO this January 15th.

There's also "Arcane" on Netflix which is based on the famous multiplayer online battle arena League of Legends, as suggested by IGN. Season 1 is already out since November 2021, wherein they also started production for the second season.

Speculations say that season two might be released this 2023, but seeing as the first season took six years before it was finished, you should take the rumors with a grain of salt.
