Twitter Brings Blue Subscription, Spaces Curation to Six New Countries

Twitter Blue is now available in more countries.

The microblogging platform recently updated its Twitter Blue page to announce that its Twitter Blue subscription service is now available in six more countries following its official release on Dec. 12.

Forbes mentioned that Twitter re-released its Blue subscription service to allow people to acquire the blue "verified" checkmark along with new steps to combat impersonation and other features the old service offers, such as early access to the platform's new features.

Twitter Blue Expansion Details

Twitter mentioned on its Twitter Blue page that it expanded its Blue subscription service in Europe and the Middle East to make it available in six more countries.

These countries include Saudi Arabia, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, and Spain. The addition of these countries means that Twitter Blue is accessible in 12 countries in total.

Unfortunately, people who just signed up for a Twitter account and wished to gain access to Twitter Blue immediately would need to wait 90 days before being allowed to do so. Additionally, all Twitter Blue subscribers will be required to confirm their phone number as part of the signup process for the subscription service.

Signing up for Twitter Blue does has its perks, though users may have to decide if the 90-day wait is worth doing for them. Editing tweets, bookmarking folders, custom app icons, and NFT profile pictures are accessible to Twitter Blue subscribers, while app themes, customizing the navigation bar, and getting a "Top Articles" shortcut are also among the features that subscribers can enjoy.

Undoing Tweets after posting them, longer video uploads, and fewer ads are also part of the perks that a Twitter Blue subscriber can gain access to.

Twitter Blue's expansion may have been motivated by Twitter's need to bring in more revenue in all ways possible, according to Tech Crunch. You may remember that Twitter recently announced it wants third-party developers to pay a certain amount to access the app's API for them to either start or continue running their third-party apps.

New Twitter Spaces Tab And Other New Features

In addition to Twitter Blue's expansion into six more countries, Twitter is also launching a new Twitter Spaces tab with curated stations for live and recorded spaces, along with podcasts. While all Twitter users can access this new tab already, those without a Twitter Blue subscription can only see what live audio sessions are currently on-air.

The company is also bringing back its themed stations that list Spaces station by topics, a feature the company previously started testing in August. However, instead of relying on people to curate topics, Twitter will use algorithms to group related real-time audio conversations together.

Meanwhile, Twitter is making podcasts available to only Blue subscribers and a few others on the app's iOS and Android apps. Unfortunately, there is no way to search for what podcasts users may like, forcing them to listen to whatever the algorithm suggests.
