It's important to show song credits in order to recognize the people behind the music but through the years of YouTube Music, it hasn't done so. However, reports say that the music streaming app might finally be adding song credits soon.
Adding Song Credits
There have been complaints about YouTube Music not properly giving credit where credit's due, but it appears that the app might be addressing it soon as song and album credits are coming to the music streaming app.
A Reddit user shared a screenshot showing that YouTube Music users can view the song's credits by tapping on the overflow menu beside the song title and selecting "View song credits,", as mentioned in Android Central, showing the track's performers, producer, composer, and more.
As for the music metadata provider, not all songs might have the information available should the song come from artists that are self-published, according to reports. The metadata may only be available when provided by the record labels or the artist themselves.
It's unclear why YouTube hasn't added this to the app seeing as they added credits to YouTube back in 2018 that show information about the songs used in videos on the service. The "Music in this video" feature shows credits for artists, songwriters, labels, and publishers.
It works for all sorts of videos, not just official music videos. It also applies to fan-uploaded content, and original content from creators like gaming, tutorials, and more. The feature was made available to 500 million videos upon launch, according to YouTube's blog post.
Users can see the details by clicking on "Show more," which will also show a link to the official channel of the artist, as well as the official music video if there was one. YouTube takes the information from its Content ID.
It was even said on the blog post that they were committed to providing recognition to people who contribute to the creative process. They also stated that through industry partnerships, they will expand the scope and quality of data to credit creators as accurately as possible.
Other Updates this 2023
For one, YouTube Music is added hashtag playlist pages. Users can rename their playlists with a hashtag in them they can immediately search for their playlists, along with other community-created playlists that have the same label.
YouTube Music also added easily accessed and more colorful casting controls. When you open the song that's currently playing, a popup will show up wherein you can connect to the most used speaker or listening device in your home.
The popup is also framed in a colorful gradient of a rainbow-like color scheme, so people will spot the option immediately. Speaking of casting, the app also has the option for users to cast lyrics on the big screen, which can be used for karaoke night, as suggested by Chrome Unboxed.
Users can also create custom radio stations with the "Create a Radio" feature. To do so, you can head to the YouTube Music homepage and click on the new splash page. Listeners get to pick artists and then apply filters so they can listen to the music they want or even discover new ones.
