iOS 16 was released on September 12th, 2022, and Apple is still working out a few kinks in the operating system. While the previous update only brought new features for the iPhone, iOS 16.4.1 comes with fixes for bugs as well as other issues.

iOS 16.4.1

The main purpose of the update to is to fix the issue with Sitri, wherein the virtual assistant does not respond to some interactions. The only other addition to the update is the additional skin tone for the pushing hands emoji, which was released in the previous update.

The iOS 16.4.1 can be downloaded by going to Settings, General, and then Software Updates, as mentioned in MacRumors. However, the iPhones eligible for the latest OS update are the iPhone SE second generation up to the iPhone 14 lineup.

Since this update has been released, Apple is likely working on iOS 16.5, and soon enough, iOS 17. The next generation of iOS might be ready just in time for Apple to introduce it at the WWDC events this June.

iOS 16 Release Features

The first release of iOS 16 brought a lot of new features for iPhones. For one, the Lock Screen has gotten additional features such as customized font styles, a set of widgets that show information much faster, as well as a way to show your favorite photos.

In the set of widgets, you can add quick access data like weather, calendar, events, date, time zones, alarms, battery level, Activity ring progress, and more. You may also create various Lock Screens and save them in case you want to switch them up.

There are more options on how you want your notifications as opposed to it covering the whole screen and covering your backdrop. You may choose to keep it the way it is, remove it entirely, or in a stacked view wherein the notifications will only appear at the bottom of the screen.

Apple's Focus feature will allow you to select apps you want to receive notifications from while silencing the others that are not as essential. You can easily swipe between Personal Focus or Work Focus at any time.

iOS 17

The upcoming iOS 17 will reportedly come with new features, despite the rumors that Apple is focusing more on its AR/VR device to put much effort into the OS. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, iOS 17 is codenamed 'Dawn."

Other rumors state that it might come with sideloading apps, as well as support for the new AR/VR headset that Apple is set to release soon. It makes sense, especially if the tech giant plans to unveil both the iOS 17 and the AR/VR headset this coming.

As for other operating systems, Apple might also release the watchOS 10, tvOS 17, and macOS 14, as mentioned in Indian Express. Should the AR/VR headset be revealed at the 2023 WWDC, Apple will also introduce the very first "xrOS" which is the system the headset will use.
