It appears that the film industry is not done with the "Harry Potter" franchise just yet. Following a successful game adaptation, Warner Bros. has confirmed a 10-year TV show for the famous books series on HBO Max.
Harry Potter Reboot
Rumors of the series have been circulating around social media since April 3rd, but now fans won't have to speculate any longer. HBO Max will officially be making a "Harry Potter" reboot with the book series author J.K. Rowling as the executive producer.
Obviously, we will be seeing a whole new set of casts seeing as the trio, Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson would now be too old for the roles. The show will run for ten years, as mentioned in Polygon.
J.K. Rowling expressed in a press release that Max preserving the integrity of her books is important to her. The author also said she was looking forward to being of the new adaptation that will "allow for a degree of depth and detail" that can only be done with a TV series.
Those who have read the book and seen the movies are aware of the limitations of a book-to-movie adaptation. HBO & Max Content Chairman and CEO Casey Bloys stated that they are delighted to provide audiences the opportunity to discover Hogwarts in a new way.
With J.K. Rowling as the executive producer, book fans can be optimistic that the TV show will be faithful to the source material. It will also give us scenes that didn't make it to the big screen given that the TV show will have a longer running time.
The Success of Harry Potter
The book series has come a long way since the first was published back in 1997. It took J.K. Rowling ten years to finish the entire set, with "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" being published in 2007, as mentioned in Variety.
Since then, it has amassed a huge fanbase and created an entirely new culture, the Wizarding World. Its fame has become massive to the point that some would casually ask what your Hogwarts house or Patronus Charm is.
Not only did J.K. Rowling create an entire witch and wizard universe, but she also invented a whole new sport, Quidditch, as well as Butterbeer, a beverage that fans wanted to try and recreated themselves.
In addition to the success of the books, the movie franchise which has eight movies has grossed more than $7.7 billion overall. There's also the extended universe of the "Fantastic Beasts" films.
Although the "Harry Potter" franchise has spawned games before, it's not as big as the success of the relatively recent game, Hogwarts Legacy. It has also spawned a Broadway show called "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child," which has been a hit.
Fans have also been given the chance to live the wizarding life in theme parks where they could even buy Butterbeer, as well as purchase items like wizard robes, scarves, wands, toys, collectibles, and more.
